For the liberty of those lagging behind this internet trend, the Dalgona coffee is a frothy and creamy coffee made its first appearance in South Korea on TikTok, at the same time the COVID-19 virus started spreading and like the virus, spread across the internet as well.
The Dalgona coffee stems from the initial Dalgona candy, a street candy sold along the streets of South Korea. Unlike its coffee counterpart, the Dalgona candy is hard with many shapes and is served on a stick but it too uses small amounts of ingredients which are mixed to produce some tongue taste delights.
So you’ve been dreading over your lack of Starbucks Caramel Macchiato, Costa Coffee or Family Mart latte in the morning, fulfil your morning dose of caffeine with a twist today with while you’re confined to your home, why not make yourself a cup and twist up your morning dose of caffeine.
Is it complex? Not at all! It is as simple of a mixture as they come, and here is all you need to know to make your very own cup of Dalgona coffee.
- 1 tbsp instant coffee
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp hot water
- ¾ glass/cup of milk (whichever drink you prefer)
NOTE: The ingredients added must be of equal proportion. For 1 cup of coffee, a 1:1:1 ratio would suffice.
How to make?
- Add the instant coffee followed by the sugar and hot water into a bowl.
- Mix until a thick consistency form. If you don’t have a mixer, you could use other suitable kitchen utensils.
- Pour your desired drink into an empty glass
- Add the mixture from the bowl on top of the glass.
The best part about this recipe is that there are many ways to up the ante to cater to your taste bud or your fellow taste testers. Not a fan of coffee in the morning? Not a problem! You can use your go-to hot morning flavour to start your day, whether it be tea powder or Milo powder would give you the frothy and creamy texture.
